Posted by I have always called it that for years! The last two weeks have seen fish begin their summer migration. It was an early start this year and certainly, you can put up all the big eye candy you choose but lets stick to the basics.
The basics are the day to day and we are here to represent it! Schools began to let out, kids graduated, and moms and dads have made the trek. From Hatteras to the North beaches the cars were lined up yesterday. Trust me. I fished then ran to Corolla and we all know going through Duck is the rabbit hole lol.
This is the second year I have been able to say it has returned some of the best blues since the old days. Piers caught some last few days, boats, few spanish in the mix, and just prior ; bo macks!
Historically, that five pound class of blue seems to disappear then return as a big one. Summer blues tend to be a pound but the blues lately have been so well fed and right on the nose!
We are still seeing one cobia every once in a while. They pushed just about the time we had the tournament here so think bonus if you get your shot. I had one pop on drum but honestly, still looking. Bottom fishing we saw just a few triggers, some bass, and that really depends on time and place that you have for the day.
We have had alot of good 3/4 trips lately when the weather is good and I have been privileged to see my regulars who are double digits with me in years. You can have all the shiny reputation you want but I will take those folks as they have stuck with us through lean and bountiful years. We have a tendency to rib each other so think more or less stress free as we all know each other.
Never take any bite for granted! It isn’t a list or a video game and it takes much thought day to day to keep on it. The machines won’t make the fish bite folks. They do it on their own.
