A Shore Thang-for our Newbies!

This is a “shore” thang folks not a sure thing. Nearshore we fish the sound side and oceanside and have for the last 40 years or so. I hated to put that number out there but there is the ugly truth! This means weather is whether! Weather is where we go, when we go, and what may run. We catch fish that are under a pound to fish that are hefty. Water can be cold, hot, cloudy and clear. Welcome to my world.

They bite and don’t bite and our “bass pond” has no borders. They can leave in a NY minute! I place this out there for folks that have not been before and if you have been before ,just keep on scrolling!

There is no predicting it and nature is the boss! If you are calling for a group please have someone who is going fishing in that group present on the line! It really helps relay what everyone does. I think the blogs help and I am now full of photos to catch up on.

We finally saw some blues and some macks which have been a mainstay traditionally. Normally , those fish are peppered throughout the summer as the temperatures get hotter. This year has seen a much needed uptick on the red drum release side. YES that is release! Those are sow drum and older and they need to go back and breed so first guy that cries gets a kleenex from me!

We are a sport boat as well. We can take a picture of it all and let it go. Up to you! Unlike a pond, these fish can drop and zip their lip. They also can move tens of miles if they so choose so there is no “magic” place to run to lol. That would be question one. Have we had a good year on them so far? Yes. Can they disappear as well? Yes! They did that last year for quite a bit and as a fleet ,we went miles trying to see them pop again.

I would not trade my younger anglers for anything. Nope! They teach me to be grateful for what we catch, when it hits the deck, and what they have not seen before. Humble pie folks. Take a piece as the world moves 100 mph and sometimes you need to put your feet up!

***you have a NE breeze up due so everything old becomes new again. That means it gets shook and the fishing changes! I have folks I owe pictures to and they are coming up! Know also that….they’re baaaackkk…..early….ribbons…

If shoved out of the ocean then we will be on the soundside chasing what is blown in! Next two reports will be the catch up on what has been. Catch the social media as well as it helps!

Thank you for those on the books! We have been booking out to take a day off here and there but will do our best not to miss you!
